MARK YOUR CALENDARS

So, I'm leaving on a 2 week trip in about... 5 hours (have yet to go to sleep), but I couldn't leave without telling you about a few things I'd like you to see. (Be sure to mark your calendars for these, I even put the dates in bold so you can find them more easily.)

First: Take a look at the A/W 11/12 collection by Ysterike, a lovely label I already mentioned a few months ago (here) - the sweetest dresses, the loveliest shirts & shorts & whatnot... Basically the perfect cute wardrobe. Sarah Lespagnol (the designer behind Ysterike) just launched her new website AND, good news for all of you, as from 15th september, the e-shop will be open as well!








Second: LN-CC is doing a private preview (ALSO on 15th september) of the collaborative collection between Japanese brand SASQUATCHfabrix & The Inoue Brothers. It's an installation called 'Modern Ninja and the Black Fist' and if you RSVP here you can all go watch it! If I wasn't on a trip that day I would've loved to see this, so if you're around, make sure you drop by!!



Third: My dutch readers might know this already, but the music platform Subbacultcha is now launching in Belgium as well! If you're into music, you're going to love this.

HEDI SLIMANE ROCK DIARY / PHOENIX

Oops, it turns out drafts don't automatically become posts if you let them sit in your account long enough... So yes, a bit overdue, but still pretty cool: Hedi Slimane (do I still have to mention he's my favourite photographer every time I do a post about him? yes? ok then: HE'S MY FAVOURITE!) taking a peek in the Phoenix studio while they're recording their new album. (And I hope you're all familiar with the wonderful French band Phoenix? You know, those guys from Versailles who make great music? The lead singer Thomas Mars who's Sofia Coppola's beau and who also looks A LOT like the young Steve Jobs?)

The pictures date back from May 2011 and were shot in New York where the 4 Phoenix boys (Thomas Mars, Laurent Brancowitz, Christian Mazzalai and Deck D'Arcy) were recording their new album. Can't wait to hear the finished album but I'm pretty sure we'll have to wait for that for at least another couple of months. I'm sure it'll be as amazing as their other ones though.

I also attended the first in a series of new concerts by Das Pop. They have a new album out, The Game, you should check that out if you like. The concert was lovely, everyone was happy to be there and all in all, a very fun night. The lighting was quite spectacular at times, especially during their new single The Game, but I guess you'll only believe me when you've seen it IRL, right? :)

I went to the Chromeo gig in Brussels on friday. It was amazing.

MUSIC TO MY EARS

If you follow me on twitter, you'd already know I'm such a sucker for good music. I can't help it, I just need my music.

Earphones are great, but once you've tried headphones and experienced how much better the listening experience gets, you never want to go back. I've been using a pair of WeSC headphones for the past 2 years now, and as much as I love my bright blue music buddy, after those 2 years of heavy-duty listening sessions, they're not as new as they used to be. I hope they'll still last for a while, but I'll eventually have to look out for a new pair.
I've heard a lot of good things about the Urbanears ones (anyone of you using them?) and yes, I'd love me some coloured headphones again, but I don't know, maybe it's time to get away from the in-your-face colours?

Just recently, Marshall released their own pair of headphones and well, they're looking good! They're very classic & have a retro feel as well.
I don't know if they're any good since I haven't tried them out myself, but Marshall is a pretty established brand in the music business (the Marshall amplifiers are probably the most used amplifiers out there, right?) so I doubt their headphones would be anything less than top quality.

Anyone of you tested these out yet?

COS AND FRIEZE ART FAIR 2010

It seems like I've become a lazy blogger - very sorry about that!
I just wanted you all to see this video COS made, you're in for a treat!



Also, I went to see Midnight Juggernauts perform last week in Brussels (I did see them this summer too, but there's never too much Jugger in my life!). I made some pictures which you can see on my Flickr and in case you missed it, there's also lots more of my Versailles pictures up there too.

SOME RANDOM BLA-BLA-BLA

Seems like I've had an impromptu blog-pause (not intentional, just been busy). In between coming back from that festival I talked to you about in last week's post, meeting (& shopping) with the wonderful wonderful Immi from Style For Guys (who managed to find me the most perfect little jacket I didn't really need but obviously HAD to get since it was way too perfect, btw - go check out his blog!) and getting myself a new camera, one that I'd been saving up for for quite a while now (y'all know these things cost big money), blogging was shoved down my to-do list (whoops).

Anyway, since I feel a little obliged to keep you up to date with what I've been up to, here's a video from one of the performances from the festival I went to: Beach House! Great artists I saw as well include Yeasayer (!!), Caribou (!), The xx, Au Revoir Simone, Two Door Cinema Club, Foals, Hot Chip, We Have Band, Everything Everything, Hurts, Toro Y Moi... (and yes, Washed Out, you just HAD to cancel now didn't you?!)

Anyway, yes, I'm going to bother you with another one of my crappy videos but the sound's pretty decent so why don't you have a listen - this was one of my favourite performances, just perfect!



And here's a picture my sister sofie took of me with my new camera. For you camera geeks, it's an Olympus PEN E-PL1 and yes, it is a really great camera & after playing with it for just a few hours I'm already in LOVE! Before you start asking me: "Hey, how did you do that black & white grainy effect in photoshop??", it's just an easy-peasy art filter on the camera, no photoshopping required.

CALVI ON THE ROCKS

I got back from my trip to Calvi a few days ago, wish I could've stayed longer! I could tell you all about how much fun I had OR I could just show you some pictures because I know a lot of you are just looking for some pretty pictures, not my diary haha. Ok.

If you do want to know a bit more about me, I did a little interview with New Look and its up on their blog right now, so go on and have a look! :)

So, pictures. I wish I could've taken some better pics because, seriously, Calvi, well, the entire island of Corsica actually, is such a beautiful place and these pics don't do it justice. Not a lot of pics of the bands as well (if you're just tuning in, I went to Calvi on holidays but also because of the festival Calvi on the rocks taking place at the time) since taking shots with a regular compact camera in the dark is never a good combo. Check out the little video I made on the end of this post though, it turned out quite ok.

Those things you see next to the water is actually the Theatre du Verdure, the place where concerts took place at night. Yes, I am serious. Location location location!


The only sodas you could get were all by Schweppes. Loved the cans, but seriously, Schweppes Cola? That doesn't sound right. Coca cola please.


This is Holy Ghost! performing (I'm so pissed this picture turned out blurry ARGH), amazing amazing amazing show. They're doing quite a bit of shows in the UK & US these next few weeks so if you're in luck & live around there, you know what to do.


This is how the Theatre du Verdure looks like at night, this is at the start of the evening so it's not too crowded yet, but can you see the comfy seats? Oooh they were heaven. This whole festival was heaven actually.
