FUN & FLIRTATIOUS

That's what I would call the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring Summer 2010 collection. Yes, it's been more then a month since the show, but I promised to slowly catch up with the shows I missed during fashion week so here it is.
Loads of prints & colours, this is Marc Jacobs at his best.

And if you're in desperate need of some sweet music, go over to my sister's blog for a new SSSSOUNDTRACK, edited by Swiss duo Pharao Black Magic. I warn you though, if you hit play you won't be able to stop listening to it.

LET'S GET PHYSICAL

That's exactly what I was thinking lately. Need more sports in my life. And while I was thinking that, I couldn't help myself from looking at the new Stella McCartney for Adidas SS 10 collection. One has to look great while doing sports, no?
Also, if you follow my tweets you'll find regular 'song of the day' updates. Today that'll be 'Physical' by Disko Drunkards (well what did you expect with a post like this?) It's a cover from the original by Olivia Newton-John.

HMM...

Here's the last from Paris fashion week. I'm a bit disappointed by the few 'wow'-moments I've had during this season. Some of the shows I featured aren't really my favourite but I just wanted to share them with you (I couldn't JUST post Lanvin, now could I?).

I hope some of you managed to catch the live streaming of Alexander McQueen's show? Though if you didn't, fear not, click here. Go on, take a look!
OK, the clothes may not be very wearable (the shoes DEFINITELY aren't, and if you ask my honest oppinion, I don't like them) but the prints are some of the most exquisite I've ever seen. The 1st & 3rd dress are actually kind of the same shape but it's really lovely, it has great movement when worn, just look at the video at around 4:22 and you'll know what I mean. Tight on the front and loose on the sides & back, now that's some serious pattern construction!

Phoebe Philo's back, after her exit at Chloé a few years ago, here's her first runway show, for Celine this time. Phoebe on the collection: "I just thought I'd clean it up. Make it strong and powerful—a kind of contemporary minimalism," Fine with me.

Next up, our favourite Dutch designer duo, always up for something crazy, Viktor & Rolf! Their latest venture: cut-away tule. I'm still wondering how they managed to cut a hole through the tule... Oh and Roísín Murphy was performing, she did a great job covering up her pregnant belly with a ginormous pouffy skirt.

Over to Louis Vuitton then. I'm not even going to bother showing you looks of the show because I'm not really getting it. I mean, afro's & clogs & pink furs make for some awkward combinations. Yeah maybe awkward is the only word to describe it. But, but... The bags looked fun, the colour combinations were very OK and the shapes were refreshing (minus the LV monogram, mind you).

And lastly, 2 more, Valentino & YSL. Both weren't that amazing but oh well...

Sorry if I sound a bit too harsh/very un-excited, but is there anyone very satisfied with the new shows? Do share.

A BARN AND A LESSON IN ETHNICS

Yes, a barn, at Chanel of all places. But it was inspired by Marie-Antoinette's barn, so it's all good.

Picture from WSJ pictures of the day

I don't know about you but I'm not a clog-fan, but I guess they match the whole countryside theme. Oh Karl... you never cease to amaze us!

And after 2 seasons of somehow very un-Dries like collections, Van Noten went back to his roots. He showed a very ethnic collection, lots of prints, and really, I think he is the only one who can mix such an amount of prints and still make it look effortless.

NEXT UP

Paris is still going strong, I really can't keep up with all the shows! But I'll get there eventually, so stay tuned!

Balenciaga - very tough & futuristic. Not bad, but this isn't my favourite Balenciaga season.

Bruno Pieters - nice & simple, as it should be.

Givenchy - this was a good season. 'nuff said.

Oh and yesterday was my birthday, bye bye teens and hello 20!
Hope you'll all have a great week!

WHO'S MY FAVOURITE?

Alber Elbaz is! He really can do no wrong. Lanvin is lucky to have him at the top! Just look at what he sent down the runway. It started with some tailored black pieces but soon changed into an explosion of colour, poufy fabrics and sequins.

FENDI + PUCCI

Still some more from Milan! Overall, I'm not that impressed with the Milan runways, but then again, Milan never is my favourite of the 4 main fashion weeks, Paris is. So stay tuned untill next week!

Let's take a look at some pictures, shall we? Karl Lagerfeld softened up (a lot!) for Fendi, I kinda liked it!

And Peter Dundas is still going strong for Emilio Pucci. I love that he uses the iconic Pucci prints, but not in a very obvious/in your face way. Good job!

BURBERRY + JONATHAN SAUNDERS + PRADA

Next up are 2 more London shows, Burberry & Jonathan Saunders plus the first Milan show, Prada!

Did anyone watch the Burberry show live on the internet? I know I did. I'm glad more and more fashion companies do this live streaming of their fashion show, Dolce & Gabanna last season, now Burberry, and apparently Alexander McQueen will go live too! Can't wait. Burberry returned home to London after several years of showing in Milan, and London should be happy about that! The collection was very very young, short skirts, pastel colours, a lot of draping and an endless amount of different trench coats - all belted.

Next, Jonathan Saunders. Although I don't think this was his best show ever, it's definitely worth mentioning. But what's up with the hairdo?

And finally, the first Milan show, Prada -what else? Although I generally don't like the no-pants look, I am willing to make an exception. Loved the collection, maybe a lot of black & grey, but who cares. The shapes & textures are amazing.

LONDON!

So here are some of yesterday's shows in London, yes, London, catching up with NY will have to wait a bit more! =)

First up, one of my personal favourites, Christopher Kane! He did go Romantic all the way, but as usual, with a twist. Gingham, pleats, panels of different fabrics & cutouts. He can do no wrong. Loving the shoes too.

Next, House Of Holland. Style.com was pretty harsh on Henry Holland stating that he'd better quit the runway and throw parties in stead. True, he's no genius like Marc Jacobs or Christopher Kane, but that's not what people buying HOH expect now do they? When I think about HOH, I think fun & flirty, is this not what you see in the pictures below?

Next up is Jaeger. I'm not very familiar with the brand, but when I saw the collection -which I liked, not loved-, I kept thinking about Stella McCartney... Any thoughts?

And last but not least, Josh Goot. Being a master in graphics, he didn't disappoint. But don't try to over accessorize these pieces, they stand out for themselves!

KITSUNÉ x COBRASNAKE

Mark the Cobrasnake makes music videos too now? Watch this video he did for the french label Kitsuné : "I'll get you" - Classixx ft. Jeppe
It is the perfect summer song & video!

If you want to see the video times 32, watch it here (you'll know what I mean if you click the link).

Why do I love Kitsuné? Two reasons:
First: they make the best cd's, their 'Kitsuné maison' compilations are my favourite ( go to their myspace if you want to get to know more of their music). Second: they make clothes too! Just look at their Printemps-été 2009 collection 'Somebody Somewhere' and you'll know why I love them...

SONIA 40 ANS

Maybe you've heard or maybe you haven't, but Sonia Rykiel was celebrating her 40 years in fashion this season. There was a catwalk show with over 100 outfits!! As always with rykiel, the models were all smiles and funny poses while on the runway.
To celebrate her 40 years, 30 designers showed outfits inspired by Sonia Rykiel.
Now look at what Martin Margiela thought of that ^-^
Photobucket
You all know Sonia Rykiel? Well for the record -because it's only funny when you know how she looks like- you can see her and her crazy haircut just in the middle of the picture.

So congrats to you Sonia!

VIKTOR & ROLF THE GREAT

Have you heard? Viktor & Rolf didn't have a runway show in Paris. Instead, they wanted EVERYONE to enjoy it! They made an amazing video with their muse Shalom Harlow.
Look for yourself! And experience it as if you were sitting front row! (And I have to say, that website is REALLY worth a visit! Best website you'll ever see!) YAAY ^-^

It seems as though I only picked dresses. Well I love dresses ^-^
Tell me what you thought of the collection?

MORE PARIS RUNWAYS

Doesn't this just make you want it to be spring again? I see myself walking in these Isabelle Marant clothes on a hot spring/summer day. Winter seems so far away now ^-^

OWENS, I OWE YOU

So here's the thing: I've never really been a big Rick Owens fan. I always thought of him as 'the designer with all the leather jackets that have flaps hanging everywhere'. Yes I know, it's ridiculous.
When I saw a picture of his show, the first thing I noticed was the nun cap (does that actually have a name?) And of course, it made me curious... And boy did he surprise me!

Everything kept getting better and better while I was browsing through the collection. Those last 3 looks... OH MY... I really need those. Seriously! I actually felt my heart beating faster! And the looks with the cutouts at the side! Wow, wow, wow.
There's one thing though, I'm not a big fan of the garbage bags aka shoes. I'm sure there will be people thinking otherwise, but for now, I'm not really getting it.
Why am I so in love with this collection? You tell me! What do you like/dislike about this collection!

If only nuns were that well-dressed in real life.

Róisín Murphy was the first one spotted in Gareth Pugh's new SS09 collection!!

PARIS IS BURNING

OK so I know I've been a bit late with all the fashion show posting, I totally missed london and milan fashion week (hope to catch up with that in the first few weeks, but that may not work out because of homework and stuff...)
BUT! Paris fashion week has started and I'm not going to get behind on my favourite of the 4 fashion weeks!
balmain SS09
Pictures from vogue.fr

First up is Balmain! I loved the blazers, the dresses and the shoes! I'll bet they'll be very wanted. You heard me Zara, start working on a pair of those!

The title of my post is referring to the song Paris is burning by Ladyhawke. If you're interested in music,or you want to get some new stuff on your ipod, visit my sisters blog here. I highly recommend it!

THANK YOU MARC PT.2

...
Photobucket

THANK YOU MARC!

For the amazing shows you gave!
Here's a bit of the Marc Jacobs collection for you to enjoy! The pieces were all very basic, but with all the crazy patterns and colours (yes colour! finally! after the first days of fashion week I was afraid all we were going to see were pastel colours!) well, I thought it looked spectacular and the more I look at it, the more I like it. I loved the different prints, but I especially loved the 3 rather basic dresses at the end of the show (you can see the pink ones down below, well actually they're white and red with stripes ^-^) ENJOY!
