I'm not sure why I felt like this Advent Calendar needed a house in it, but well, it fit. I do like a well-designed house/appartment/whatever. I like it when I see pictures of a house, an interior or a piece of furniture and think: WOW. Things pleasing to the eye.
You may have seen this house before, it's the Farnsworth house by Mies van der Rohe. Or maybe you're more familiar with his Barcelona chair? Anyway, Mies designed great houses and buildings. He's one of my favourite architects EVER so it would only be fitting to put him in this list of favourites.
I couldn't possibly put all his buildings on this calendar since this is more about 1 favourite a day, so out of his immense collection I picked the Farnsworth house. I'd really love to see it in person one day, I have a feeling it looks even better than on the pictures. Some of us dream of seeing the Eiffel tower in person, I dream of seeing this in real life. Weird.
