Maison Martin Margiela is coming out with its first perfume, aptly called 'untitled' -very Margiela style. I wonder what it smells like. It's unisex and supposed to be "floral, woody, and very green” (including notes of fern) as well as “ambery and oriental”.

However, I couldn't help but wonder why they would wait to bring out their FIRST perfume just a few months after Margiela's retirement from the brand? Also, MMM has been selling a lot of collection pieces from their Artisanal label on yoox.com. I could be wrong but it almost feels like, now that Margiela's gone, they want to get rid of all his stuff and start over. I hope Maison Martin Margiela doesn't lose its un-commercial and mysterious vibe since that is what draws a lot of people to the brand. I think. Nevermind if you thought this was the weirdest thing you ever read on my blog.

I inclination not agree on it. I over precise post. Expressly the appellation attracted me to be familiar with the intact story.
true, it's all about money money money now
money used to have nothing to do with it at MMM.
I also wonder a lot what this smells like,
hmm, I'm determined to track down a tester when next in the city.
not a perfume girl but i do like arty bottles!
hmm.. an interesting thought for consideration. perhaps the new-in-charge just wants to make their own mark on the label as soon as possible? creating the house's FIRST EVER anything is the simplest way to accomplish that.
On the other hand, the fact that they have chosen to release a perfume (not, say, a limited edition accessory) gives more support to your pondering. a low priced and wearable item like a fragrance is an attractive buy in for so many consumers who would otherwise never afford (or think they can afford) a piece of MMM; but once they have splashed $200 on fragrance, spending a little more on a wallet and then a little more than that on a belt and so on becomes a little less of a 'couture spend' shock.
it will be interesting to see what they do next...
love your blog, i've only just come across it but i love your writing style x

I actually bought some MMM shoes on Yoox and have to say that it was kind of in an attempt to get my hands on something "old Margiela" before the transition is entirely complete. So sad that I don't seem to be as interested in the future of MMM. We can always keep our fingers crossed, though, and hope that the house can stay the course without him. And I love the perfume bottle -- perfectly Margiela.
first off, i wonder how this mish mash of odors will smell like. but then again, i have an untrained nose, who am i to say? :D
i agree with wideawakethoughts above. this feels like a new direction entirely for MMM. the new team may be focused more on making the brand more commercially viable and there's no better place to start than with a fragrance. appropriately priced, it's like a gateway purchase. MMM has always been one of my favourites, so i anxiously await the new changes.

ps thanks for stopping by. you have a lovely blog!
i've always loved MMM! i'm on you with the future state of the label, hoping that it doesn't lose its unwavering, anonymous appeal that we all love now that he's gone. have a great weekend!

I agree with you on MMM and what may be happening, not a weird post :)
i'd def wanna smell this! this brand already had me thinking, 'huh?' now i think it even more with him gone.
Easily I acquiesce in but I about the post should have more info then it has.
I know exactly what you mean.
And is it just me or does the bottle remind you of a bottle of perscribed pills?!
Maybe its just the font...

My friend and I were recently talking about how technology has become so integrated in our day to day lives. Reading this post makes me think back to that discussion we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.
I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Societal concerns aside... I just hope that as the price of memory drops, the possibility of transferring our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's one of the things I really wish I could experience in my lifetime.
